Enrollment

  • Is enrollment open to anyone?

    Enrollment at Homewood Early Learning Center (ELC) is open to all, including community members who may not be affiliated with Johns Hopkins University. Homewood ELC follows a priority admission schedule as well as other important admission procedures.

  • What age groups are eligible to attend Homewood Early Learning Center?

    Children 10 weeks old through preschool are eligible to attend. There are classrooms for infants, toddlers, two year olds, and preschoolers.

Hours of Operation

  • What are the hours of operation?

    The Homewood Early Learning Center is open Monday through Friday, from 7:30 am – 6:00 pm.

Accreditation

  • Is the center accredited?

    The Homewood Early Learning Center will open with a Maryland approved license from the Office of Child Care.

    The center will begin the required self-study for accreditation upon opening. A child care center must complete a self-study for accreditation before applying for a validation visit. The self-study process takes a full year. Parents will be kept informed throughout the process.

Tuition

  • What is the tuition?

    Tuition is based on the age of your child. You can find monthly rates in the section Tuition.

  • Is there a tuition discount for siblings?

    A five percent (5%) reduction in tuition is given to families who enroll, full time, two or more children from the same immediate family.  The five percent reduction only applies to the oldest child.  

  • Does Homewood Early Learning Center offer any tuition assistance?

    Not at this time.

  • Does Homewood Early Learning Center accept enrollment that may be publicly funded?

  • Does Homewood Early Learning Center have a waiting list?

    We currently have a waitlist for most age groups.  For information about your specific needs, please contact us at (410) 516-4545 or via the Ask a Question link to the left.

Curriculum and Kindergarten Readiness

  • What curriculum do you use?

    Teaching Strategies Creative Curriculum individualizes learning for each child. Your child will progress as far as he or she can to be ready for kindergarten.

  • Are children prepared to enter kindergarten?

Parent Involvement

  • Is parent involvement encouraged?

    All center staff members are committed to making you, your child, and your family feel welcome, supported and part of the center community. Throughout the year, we host family events so that we can get to know each other better. We also encourage parents to share their time and talents with the center.

Safety

  • What measures have been taken to ensure the safety of my child?

    The safety of the children attending our center is of paramount importance. We have taken many precautions to ensure a safe and secure learning environment where children can develop socially, emotionally, physically and intellectually. These include:

    • All employees are screened thoroughly, and federal and state background checks are completed as required by law.
    • Drop-off and pick-up procedures are designed carefully to ensure safe transitions at the start and end of each day.
    • Regular access to the facility is granted only to authorized staff and parents/guardians.
    • Safety and security measures were an integral component in the design of the center and continue to be a top priority.

Johns Hopkins University

  • Does the Homewood Early Learning Center have a relationship with Johns Hopkins University?

    The Johns Hopkins Office of Work, Life and Engagement serves as a liaison between the university and the center.
